The Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) lead the Future of Mobility showcase at the Putrajaya LIFT Festival 2019, which concluded last weekend in Putrajaya. The event was officiated by Ybhg. Dato’ Seri Dr, Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia.
The event featured several Future Pods, showcasing future technologies in various sectors including Future of Food, Future of IoT and Future of Living. MARii lead the showcase titled “Future of Mobility” in LIFT’s showcase area of Future Pods, which served as a platform to expose the public to technology based services, focusing on Mobility-as-a-Service (Maas) and its technologies such as advanced e-commerce systems, connected living, and e-hailing, all of which are trends closely related to the financial technology (Fintech).
The application of Fintech within the mobility-as-a-service ecosystem extends beyond financial transactions alone. Backend business operations such as payment/subscription models, personalised product offerings and inventory management are also vital elements that requires the utilisation of fintech. The synergy of both these sectors have found themselves in emerging MaaS platforms such as Grab and SOCAR, both of which are gaining popularity among global markets.
“As the world markets evolve rapidly in the development of Connected Mobility technologies, it has caused a change in the way we interact with and perceive transportation, beyond just as a medium to travel from point A to B. The entire mobility value chain would require new services to fill in the gaps as we travel – which is called MaaS. MaaS combines multi-modal transport services into a single platform, providing innovative offerings of on-demand mobility services enabled through digital connectivity.”, said Dato’ Madani Sahari, CEO MARii.
“Trends show that the emergence of new technologies will change consumers’ purchasing behaviours, creating more room for E-commerce and Fintech-based companies to flourish, offering new and innovative services. This is why the government, through the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), is paying strong attention to accelerate the domestics business for the disruptive digital economy”, he added.
The showcase by MARii focused on several MaaS aspect areas including – Ride Sharing Concepts (car sharing, person-to-person car rental), Multimodal Transportation (autonomous transport system, personal travel planner), E-Payment (smart payment, smart parking), Connected Living (e-health, e-learning) and Telematics (real-time traffic management, connected vehicles).
These technologies will transform the way we live, especially during the purchasing phase. As we progress towards digitalisation, online transactions and integrated payment systems, or applications, will be a “must-have” solution in the near future.
Visitors also had the opportunity to experience a Virtual Showroom concept which utilises elements of Industry 4.0 such as Big Data Analytics (BDA), Internet of Things (IoT) and Cloud-based services.
This concept, in line with MITI’s Industry4WRD: National Policy on Industry 4.0, creates a digitalised showroom and transforms the way aftermarket services are conducted, allowing for a seamless, interactive and immersive experience for customers while reducing operational costs for business owners.
The advantages of IoT were also exhibited to visitors through the Smart Home exhibition where features such as remote monitoring and home appliances control were showcased. Home “digital renovations” on a 1:1 scale using VR-applications were also showcased to event goers as well as technologies related to 3D design and coding applications, 3D printing and robotics.
